We got a garage and we've been moving things into it, slowly. We hope to move my st
udio to the second bedroom with James' studio and turn my soon-to-be-former-studio back into a dining room. I know, I know, it's a scarey concept that we would sit at a dining table and eat like all other kinds of decent people, but I think we're ready. I already have an oak table, but we're shopping for some chairs. I'm thinking about getting some Salvation Army chairs and making art of them. Right now, we've got enough to do moving boxes and stuff downstairs.
Knitting
Ooooo, this is where it gets pretty! Been working on several things, including gifts and a test-knitter project for a pattern designer. So, the pictures will be only tiny bits and a little out of focus. It's your job, my dear readers, to determine the what, who and when.
Here are some pictures of yarn to tempt you to speculate.
Television
Yep, I'm a self-confessed sci-fi television addict. At least I always thought it was just sci-fi, but it turns out that others like me (yes, there are a few) call it "cult television." Any surprise that I'm involved in something called cult tv? Hello, do you remember another cult experience called Rocky Horror Picture Show and my custom-painted shirt?
While I was working on the test knitting project, I used my handy-dandy Netflix membership to edumacate myself on the older versions of Dr. Who. I watched every episode that was available instantly. Thoughts: I actually love Tom Baker's characterization, I liked Jon Pertwee's version, I liked even better Christopher Eccleston's rendition, I really, really, truly love David Tennant's choice of quirks. Even though the special effects now seem really poor and unimaginative, it
didn't bother me when viewing episodes. OK, the creature made out of painted bubble wrap was pretty funny.

I've also become addicted (see a pattern here?) to podcasts. I've linked to some of my favorites below:
Cast On - Brenda Dayne could read me her grocery list and I would listen. Good thing she talks about knitting and has some wonderful personal growth stories.
Craftlit -This is as much fun as taking another literature class without the tests. Heather talks about knitting, literature and life. I'm currently listening to past episodes on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Lots of fun info and discussion about the day's chapter and then a reading of the chapter from the Librivox.org catalog.
Escape Pod - Scifi short stories and flash fiction
LimeNViolet - LMAO knitting podcast "show"
Podcastle - Fantasy short stories
Pseudopod - horror short stories
Television Zombies - cult television discussion, laughter, thoughtful and thought-provoking discussion of the tv shows. Think Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who, Lost, Pushing Daisies, and others.
I guess this is my version of talk radio, which seems to be overwhelmed with right-wing screamers who have their heads up their backsides. These direct-to-my-head radio shows educate me, inspire me, comfort me and make me laugh, a.lot. I am able to listen to a good book, a short story, or hear other cult tv freaks discuss our common shows.
It's a new hybrid version of community, but it's a community nonetheless. We are still reaching out to and communicating with each other, connecting with others who share our interests.
